Albert L. Spell, age 83, of Alma passed away June 17, 2023 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness. He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Purdie Jackson Cothren and Vernice Lee Spell Murray. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Marie Steed and Lisa Nipper, five sisters, Yvonne Thompson, Eloise Cothren, Juanita Taylor, Latrelle Cothren and Bonnie Taylor and three brothers, Leland Cothren, Eston Cothren and Howard Cothren.

Mr. Spell was retired from Flash Foods, Inc. and was a member of Mount Pleasant Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Audrey Faye Rewis Spell; four children, Stevie Spell (Brenda). Danny Spell (Diane), Pete Spell and Sherry Spell Tanner all of Alma; five brothers and sisters, Lamon Cothren, James Cothren, Marie Boatright (Ronnie), Freda Ann Cooper and Emelyn West; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and a special great-grandson, Andy Cooks.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Eason officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until funeral time.

Active pallbearers will be: Sidney Spell, Jon Spell, Stanley Spell, Stevie Spell, Jr., Derek Jacobs and Mark McCarty. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mount Pleasant Church, Quitman Dyal, Benny Cothern, Mr. Spell's Home Nurses and the Staff of Twin Oaks Nursing Home.

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
