Alfred Gerald Lee, Jr. peacefully passed on to be with the Lord the morning of June 9, 2017. He was 68 years old. "Jerry", as most knew him, was born on February 18, 1949 in Alma, GA to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gerald Lee, Sr. Growing up in Alma, he attended First Baptist Church, where he was baptized in the fall of 1958. He played football at Bacon County High School, graduating in 1967. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Georgia. At UGA he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Terry College of Business. Following graduation, he then returned home to continue working and eventually assuming an active leadership role for his family business, D.L. Lee and Sons. It was during this time in Alma that he met his wife of 33 years, Peggy Prescott Lee. They eloped on the weekend of February 19, 1984.
In 1992, D. L. Lee and Sons, Inc. original facilities were destroyed by fire. After the fire, the Lee family pulled together to ultimately build a new, state of the art, 120,000 square foot facility. The decision was reached to discontinue slaughter operations and specialize in the manufacture of value added pork, beef, and chicken products. The decision ultimately led to the company's most successful years in operation. In May 2002, David and Jerry assumed complete ownership of the company, when David began his role, as President, and Jerry, as Chief Financial Officer. In addition to his role at D.L. Lee and Sons, Inc.he served as Chairman to the Board of FNB South for several years.
Jerry was a man blessed with immense talent, a gifted accounting and finance expert, avid outdoorsman, skilled pilot, critical thinker with a broad grasp of the world around him. He loved to fly, hunt, fish, travel, and spend time with his close friends and family. He was known for his honest counsel, his hilarious wit, and ability to operate and maneuver solely on "JST", Jerry Standard Time. Most notably, he pursued his faith in Jesus Christ. He will be remembered as a strong patriarch to his family, as a husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He is preceded in death by his father and mother,. Alfred Gerald Lee, Sr. and Lura Fernell Hill Lee. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Prescott Lee; his children, Anna Lee Buehn and Alfred Gerald Lee, III, or "Trey"; his son-in-law, Lieutenant Timothy Alexander Buehn; his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and George Johnson; and his brothers Henry Lee and Paul Lee; and sister-in-law, Genie Lee, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation with his family will be held at 6:00 to 9:00 P M on Monday, June 12 at Crosby Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 13 at First Baptist Church in Alma, GA with Rev. Ron Sweatt and Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by his daughter Anna Lee Buehn. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Our family wishes to thank all the faithful and merciful friends who walked alongside Jerry and our family throughout his lifetime.
