Alvin Meeks, age 76, of Alma died Friday night at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.  He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Carlton Meeks and Katherine Spivey Meeks and was also preceded in death by a brother James (Bud) Meeks and two sisters Norene Sellers and Merle Stokes. Alvin was a member of New Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Mary Frances Ruis Meeks of Alma, three sons Edward Eugene Meeks, Charles Jack Gibson (Christa) and Jonathan Tad Meeks all of Alma;  four daughters, Mary Ann Palmer (Mike), Maria Ann Gibson, Serina Marie Meeks and Ashlyn Grace Meeks all of Alma.  One sister Florence Rigby (Carl) of Alma.  Also 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 P M from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Loren Bryant and Rev. Donnie Tuten officiating.  Interment will follow in Wolf Pit Cemetery.  The Family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6 and 9 P M.

Active pallbearers will be Ellis Bowman, Hunter Gibson, Clayton Arnold, J C Arnold, Mitch Sears, Rusty Sears and Gene Lee.  Honorary will be Mayo Mims, Buddy Almond and Gene Davis.
