Obituary

Anita Gayle Cook, age 80, of Alma, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, at Bacon County Hospital following a short illness.

Born on November 20, 1945, in Lafayette, Indiana, Anita was the daughter of the late Grover John Rook and Geneva Francis Deck Rook. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose life was centered around caring for others. Anita had a kind heart, a gentle spirit, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.

Anita was a faithful member of Alma Christian Fellowship, as well as the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary. Her faith and her commitment to her community were an important part of her life, and she will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering love.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Chad Hupfer, and her son-in-law, Tony Lord.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her husband of 44 years, Paul Dennis Cook; her son, Jon’ Gebhart (Rosa) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; her daughters, Jacque Beckley (Howard) of Pittsboro, Indiana, and Juli Jarrard (Mark); her grandchildren, Amanda Cox (John), Lauren Beckley, James Hernandez (Natalie), Jake Muirheid, Joshua Muirheid, Austin Lord (Anna), and Traci Davis (Josh); three great- grandchildren; her sister, Jackie Hupfer (Chuck) of Danville, Illinois; her niece, Shelly Schoenherr (Bill); her great-nephews, Noah Schoenherr (Haley) and Brandon Schoenherr; her great-niece, Emma Schoenherr (Gage); and her great-great-niece, Delilah Schoenherr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Alma Christian Fellowship with Pastor Calvin Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Campground Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Howard Beckley, Mark Jarrard, Austin Lord, and Josh Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Cisneros, Ashley Miles, Pat Lott, and the caring staff of Bacon County Hospital.

Anita will be deeply missed, but her love and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
