Obituary

Benjamin "Benny" Ellis Boatright, Sr., age 68, passed away on August 18, 2022 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Bacon County on November 18, 1953 to the late Winford Royal Boatright and Virginia Medders Boatright.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Stan Boatright, sister Pam Patterson and brother Walt Medders.

Benny retired from a career as a supervisor in manufacturing, working for companies such as Milliken, Streat's, and Cady Bag.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Sandra "Sandi" Simmons Boatright; his four children, Benji (Mandy) Boatright, Angie (Chris) Rowell, Bradley Miller, Brock (Samantha) Miller;  brother, Dennis Boatright; three sisters, Beth (Gary) Taylor, Clara (Kenny) Towns, and Michelle (Marty) Orvin; eight grandchildren, Jaden Nasworthy, Zander Miller, Gabe Miller, Ellisa Boatright, Rhett Miller, Ty Miller, Taylor (Thomas) Rowell-Watson and Clay (Jerri-Ann) Rowell; one great-granddaughter, Annalee Watson, several nieces and nephews; and close friends Gregory Turner and John Miles.

Benny will be remembered as a man who loved his family and friends passionately and that above all he was the ultimate Los Angeles Dodgers fan.  He always said it was in his DNA because he got that love of the Dodgers from his father.  His love for the game of baseball will also be forever engraved in the hearts of all the young men he coached in the Bacon County recreation league for numerous years and in the Road Dawgs travel ball team. He was a passionate coach who gave his whole heart to the team and instilled in the minds of many that they could succeed at any level as long as they put in the work and, above all, had fun playing the game.  Many days and nights were put into making his teams the best that they could be. He was also an avid Georgia Bulldog Football fan who spent numerous hours analyzing and breaking down the Dawg's games play-by-plays and recruitment strategies with his long time friend John Miles.
