Betty Jean Altman, age 79, of Alma passed away Sunday, August 26th at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County and daughter of the late Macajah Harper and Mattie Bell Allen Harper. Betty was preceded in death by six brothers, Hugh- Wallace, Idos, Hugh Dallas, J.T., Bernice and Maloy Harper and three sisters, Velma Ramsey, Mazzie Reaves and Lucille Turner. She was a basketball player during her high school years and a member of New Vision Church.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Altman, Jr. of Alma, two sons, Ronnie Altman (Wanda), Ricky Altman (Sherry), a daughter, Rebecca Jean Altman of Alma, one brother, William Bill Harper of Waycross, several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29th at 2:00 PM at New Vision Church with Rev. Pet Hayes and Bro. Jamie Altman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 PM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6 and 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Marty & Brandon Johnson, Derek, Scotty, Casey, Travis, Curt, Jaron and Dustin Altman. Honorary pallbearers will be; New Vision Church Members and all friends and relatives.
