Obituary

Burtis Lee Carter, age 78 of Alma, passed away suddenly at Bacon County Hospital on Friday, January 12, 2018 the Bacon County Hospital. He was born in Alma, Georgia on September 22, 1939 to late Oren "Son" Lee Carter and Frances Taylor Carter. His former wife Laverne Taylor Carter, two daughters, Wendy Lewis & Theresa Carter, a son, Terry Carter, a brother, J. W. Carter and three sisters, Alif Hyers, Lurene Hyers and Martha Ann Carter preceded him in death. He was retired from Milliken, a Member of Liberty Church of God and served in the US Army.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 15 years, Eunice Bryd Carter of Alma, a brother, Roy Carter (Diane) of Alma, six stepchildren, Wade Tenney of Waycross, Sean Tenney of Portland, OR., Brad Tenney of Alma, Rena Taylor, of Valdosta, GA. Lisa Ogle (Matthew) of Doulgas and Cindy Tenney, of Alma, son-in-law, Orvil Lewis of Alma; also 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home, on Tuesday, January 16 th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Leon Guest and Rev. Hulett Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 15 th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Crosby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be; Jerry Bullard, Greg Turner, Gregory Turner, Tommy Lee, Josh Taylor and Jeremy Taylor. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
