Charles David Godwin, Sr., age 77, passed away suddenly February 25, 2024 at his residence. He was born July 27, 1946 in Jeff Davis County to the late Alex Godwin and Jessie Mae Allen Godwin. He lived in Bacon County for 15 years before moving to Jacksonville Florida where he lived for many years then lived to Alabama the past couples of years.

Mr. Godwin served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was retired from CSX Railroad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James Allen Godwin; son-in-law, Ralph Whitney; brothers Phillip Godwin, Ronnie Godwin and Dale Godwin and sisters, Betty Hewitt, Wanda Anderson, Kathy Thrift, Evelyn Harris and Shirley Ann Medders.  Survivors include two children Charles David Godwin, Jr. (Tammy) of Graham, AL. and Sherry Lee Whitney of Texas; brother, Jerry Godwin (Linda) of Jacksonville and sisters Jessie Lee Medders of Alma and Karen Story.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Pastor Toby Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday from 1:00 PM until service time.Active pallbearers will be Shane Gomillion, Jacob Nelson, Nick Nelson, Luke Nelson, Tom Nelson and Mark Biggs, Jr. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
