Obituary

Charles Grover Whitacre, age 87, of Alma passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida after an extended illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on June 8, 1931 to the late Maxwell L. Whitacre and Dorothy Cooper Whitacre. Two brothers, Eugene & Donald Whitacre and two sisters, Barbara Smith and Marilyn Goodwin preceded him in death.

Mr. Whitacre was a Design Engineer a retired Salvation Army Minister; a member of the Salvation Army, a member of Baptist Church and served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Althea Ruth Hagar Whitacre of Alma, two sons, Charles G. Whitacre (Joy) of Hornell, New York State and Maxwell Mark Whitacre (Marie) of Alma, two daughters, Shelley Ruth Williams (Ron) of Alma and Leanne Marie Kelly (Stephen) of Nanuet, New York, a sister-in-law, Betzann "Betty" Carroll (Stephen) of Halifax, PA., 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10 th at 3:00 PM at Alma First Baptist Church with Major Stephen Kelly and Rev. Ron Sweat officiating. Interment will  follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at First Baptist Church Sunday from 1:00 PM until funeral time.

Active pallbearers will be; Mark Whitacre, David Hundley, Josiah Hollis, Hunter Williams, and Redford Williams. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
