Obituary

Dalton "Dock" Lijah Carnes, age 101, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at his residence after a short illness. He was born on June 20, 1916 in Rabun County, Georgia to the late Caney C. Carnes and Lavonia Lovell. His wife, Romaina Fales Carnes, six brothers, Bard, Tom, Mart, Mack, Dave and Sam Carnes and a sister, Rachel Hyers preceded him in death. He served in the US Army during WWII.

Mr. Carnes is survived by his four children, Robert Carnes, Caney Carnes (Kathy), Eloise Phillips (Ron) of Jacksonville, FL. and Catherine Griggs (Michael) of Hartsville, SC., two sisters, Ruby Philbrook (Robert) of Alma, GA. and Rosie Tillman of Blackshear, GA.; also 9 grandchildren Deborah Morgan (Jason), Jaime Layne (James), Crystal Jones (Joe), Angie Searcy (Brad), April Laymon, Jim Scheibe, Joshua Carnes (Samatha) Marcus Phillips (Anita) and Amy Jones, 9 great-grandchildren, 17 great- great grandchildren and 1 great great- great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 22 nd at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Roy King and Rev. Anthony Cohron officiating. Interment will follow in Mershon Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour before the funeral.

Active pallbearers will be; Marcus Phillips, Joshua Carnes, Jason Morgan, Brad Searcy, Roy Carnes and Shon Fales. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
