Darthalyn C Hughes went home to be with the Lord. Waiting for her was her husband of 66 years, Isom Loran Hughes. Also preceding her in death are her parents, W Talmadge and Annie H Carter, her brother Eugene T Carter and SIL Faye Q Carter, her sister Jackie C Waters and brother-in-law Howell Waters and sister Bobbie Carter. Her son-in-law Denny E Smith and grandson Wyatt S Reddy and son-in-law Hughlet Carter also preceded her in death. Sisters in law Pauline H Westberry, Audrey H Crothers, Bernice H Hollingsworth and brothers-in-law Deveraux Hughes, Ray Westberry, Norman Crothers and Darwell Hollingsworth, AC Wade and sister-in-law Varnell Hughes. Nephews Daniel Hughes, Nickey Hollingsworth and Donnie Westberry preceded her in death, as well.
Darthalyn, also known by some as Aunt Dot, has lived a long and prosperous life. She is survived by her daughters, Audrey H Smith, Sherry H Carter, Irene H Crowder (Ronnie) and son Steve L Hughes (Marcia), sister Janice Carter and Sisters in law Dewayne H Wade Clark (Ted) and Virgil Lee (Nelson) Bennett. Grandsons Jonathan (Sandy) and Brian Dixon, Steven L Hughes (LauraLee) and Samuel Hughes, Granddaughters Aimee (Carroll) Weaver, Dana (Jordan) Greenich, Hannah (Hunter) Schmeltz and Rachel Hughes also survive the passing of Granny as well as Great grandsons Anthony (Christen) Dixon, Harrison Reddy and granddaughters Avery and Anniston Greenich and Mary Bowen Hughes. Step grandchildren Angel (Daniel) Schaffer and Vance Crowder and great grandchildren Savannah, Brooke and Grant Schaffer and Kyle and Keaton Crowder also know her as Granny. Many nieces and nephews also survive her passing. Our thanks to special people, Lori F Bruna, Misty Hill, Amanda Barnard and the Hospice and Home Health Care services, Leah, Marie, Rhonda and Julie.
Although being born, September 26, 1927, in the Ten Mile Church area, Darthalyn spent her adult life in service and membership at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church. She was a long-time secretary/treasurer of the Sunday School and W(omen) N(ationally) A(ctive) for C(hrist) where she was known for her meticulous record keeping and scrupulous handwriting.
A celebration of life for Darthalyn will be held at the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, Alma, Tuesday morning at 11:00, with Rev. Steve Hughes and Rev. Parnell Aldridge officiating. Active pallbearers include Carroll Weaver, Harrison Reddy, Jordan Greenich, Brian Dixon, Anthony Dixon, Steven Hughes, Hunter Schmeltz, Samuel Hughes and Vance Crowder. Everyone in attendance will be considered honorary escort. Interment will follow in Corinth Church Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday night from 6-8:00.
We invite you to this celebration of her life, but more importantly, to the new life she is now celebrating in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If you don't know Him, today, come to Him that you may also know that you, too, will one day leave this life to reside in His presence.
