Darwell Hollingsworth, age 84, of Alma passed away Thursday, December 25th at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Waymon Newton Hollingsworth and Gussie Hyers Hollingsworth. Darwell was preceded in death by a sister, Muthene Smith and brother-in-law, L. C. Smith. He was a Deacon and member of Cornith Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bernice Hughes Hollingsworth, a son, Nicky Hollingsworth and a daughter, Elondia Carter (Bentley) of Alma, one sister, Eileen Mills (Henry) of Houston, TX., 4 grandchildren, Nichole Myerson, Shawn Hollingsworth (Scheryl), Kyle Carter and Hannah Mayers and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 28th at 2:00 PM at Corinth Free will Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hughes and Rev. Josh Horton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; David Blanton, Mike Meadows, Mark Meadows, Jack Wildes, Teddy Varnedore and Chip Beal. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
