August 7, 1933 – June 22, 2022
Delano Deen, age 88, of Alma passed away on June 22, 2022 at Satilla Hospice in Waycross after a brief illness. He was born in Bacon County on August 7, 1933 to the late Roy Stanford Deen and Arrhena Tanner Deen. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sammy Deen and James Deen.
Delano graduated Bacon County High School Class of 1950. He received an Associate Degree from South Georgia College in Douglas; 2 Bachelor degree's at Georgia Southern College. Received a Master Degree at UGA in Chemistry; taught school in Jeff Davis and Bacon County; also taught school for 37 years, 30 years which was at South Georgia College as a Chemistry Professor. He was past President of Georgia Wildlife Federation and was named conservationist of the year in 1974. In 1989 the Georgia Environmental Council named him Environmental Volunteer of the year. He was also Past President of the Catfish Farmers of Georgia Association. He served in the US Army and was a member of Pinegrove Baptist Church in Douglas, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, June Taylor Deen of Alma; two sons, Bradford Deen of Lyons, GA and Jeffrey Deen (Lauren) of Milledgeville, GA; two grandchildren, Andrew Benson and Joel Stanford Deen and sister, Dolores Deen Long of Callahan, Fl.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25 th at 11:00 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Capshaw and eulogy by Dr. Jack Lewis. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until funeral time.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Springfield-Elias Altman Cemetery Fund c/o Marvin Deen at 126 Candlewood Dr. Alma, GA. 31510
Active pallbearers will be; Dr. Michael Deen, Dr. Roy Deen, Jonathan Deen, Jerry Mims, Ferrell Long and Terry Douglas. Honorary pallbearers will be; South Georgia College Retired Faculty and the Bacon County High School Class of 1950.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
