Dennis Charles Johnson, age 70, of Nicholls, died early Wednesday morning June 10th, 2015 at Mayo in Waycross after a short illness. He was a native of Jacksonville, FL but had lived in Coffee County most of his life. He was son of the late Clarence Charles Johnson and Oveda Davis Johnson and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joann Johnson Surrency and Wanda Johnson Moore, a nephew, Ken Moore. Dennis was a member and deacon of Nicholls Baptist Church and had served our country in the National Guard for six years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Geraldine (Jerri) Lee Johnson of Nicholls, a son, Chris Johnson (Judy) of Douglas, a daughter, Becky Anderson (Jeff) of Glennville, GA, a sister, Sandra Gilliard of Nicholls, a special niece, Donna Surrency of Nicholls, four grandchildren, Kayla Butler (Wayne) of Tifton, Mandy Anderson of Glennville, Emilee and Drew Johnson both of Douglas, two great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Nicholls Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Campbell and a eulogy by Graham Tyre. The family will be receiving friends at the church Friday morning from 10:00 until funeral time at 2:00 P M. Interment will follow in Roberts Cemetery near Nicholls.
Active pallbearers will be, Chris Elrod, Jamie Johnson, Brian Griffin, Wesley Gilliard, Ricky Hersey, Josh Ellis and Jim Linton. Honorary will be, past and present deacons of Nicholls Baptist Church, Classmates of 1963 and Gary Surrency.
