Earnest Lee Altman, age 81, of Alma died Sunday afternoon July 3rd, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah after a short illness. He was a native of Bacon County son of the late Curtis Altman and Hulda Elizabeth Carter Altman was the youngest of eight children and was also preceded in death by three brothers Titus, Quinton and Curtis Altman, Jr., three sisters Louise Riggins, Doris Davis and Sally Smith. Earnest, was a farmer, a very close knit family man loving his wife of 60 years his 3 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, many nieces and nephews and his neighbors as well at 278 Altman Farm Road. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Jeff Davis County.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Carolyn Graham Altman of Alma, two sons Randy Altman, Stevie Altman (Leisa) of Alma a daughter Vickie Baker (Bill) of Baxley, one brother, Quitman Altman of Brunswick, GA., four grandchildren Jason Rigdon (Anna), Brent Altman (Summer), Garrett Altman (Kelli), Shelby Altman, nine great-grandchildren Jackson, Sydney, Carter and Cate Rigdon, Graylynn, Annalee, Liza Rae, Fallon and Hudson Altman. Also many nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o'clock at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Jeff Davis County with Rev. Mark Carver, Rev. Allen Swain and Rev Stan Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 10:00 A M to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be Brent and Garrett Altman, Jason and Jackson Rigdon, Matt Baker, Jose Garcia, Benny Carver and Roger Smith. Honorary will be Larry, Dewayne and Ricky Carver, James Stewart, L W Brantley, James Beck, Jack Tanner, Theo Wilcox and Steve Hutchinson.
