E.D. Turner, age 90, of Alma died Saturday May 16, 2015 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Bacon County and the son of the late Joe L. and Lula Watson Turner. He was also preceded in death by a son Glenn Turner, a daughter Kathy Sweat, six brothers Claude, Horace, Clyde, Ulyss, and Donald Turner, and three sisters Lovie Dixon, Lillian Gillis, and Lillie Turner. Mr. Turner was a veteran of WWII while serving in the United States Navy and a member of the Alma First Baptist Church. He was also a retired educator and a certified tobacco weigher for may years.
Survivors include his wife of sixty six years Pauline Albritton Turner, one daughter Liz Ann Hart (Wendell), and two grandchildren Charlie Sweat and Bob Hart all of Alma.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 19th at 2 PM at the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Johnson and Rev. Carlata Barfield officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Monday night from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Bob Hart, Charlie Sweat, Donald Johnson, John Smith, Teddy Boatright, and Ronnie Sweat. Honorary pallbearers are the Big Brothers Sunday School Class, retired teachers of Bacon, Appling, and Jeff Davis counties, veterans of the American Legion and VFW, Hardees's Breakfast Club, Twin Oaks Nursing Home staff, Gene Davis, Warren Tucker, Alvin Walker Jr., Jay Davis, Joe Boyett, Andy Sutton, Delanoe Deen, Brandi Williams, David and June Alderman, Margret Bone, Rhena Hutto, David and Kay Lee, Kathy Akins, James and Lulene Twiggs, Janie and James Carter, Eric Hutto, Nadine and Raymond Bullock, Shirley Bennett, Rev and Mrs. Fred Morgan, and Bobby Hart.
