Edith Bass, age 88, of Alma passed away at the Bacon County Hospital on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born in Appling County on May 4, 1932 to Silas Johnson and Abbie Gail Keen Johnson.
Mrs. Edith grew up in Baxley, Georgia. Most of her adult life was split between Atlanta, Georgia and Palatka, Florida. Edith and her husband (H.I. Roberson) ran a very successful construction company in both locations. One of their more notable developments was the MayPort Subdivision in East Palatka Florida. She returned to Alma in 2015 to retire. She was simply known as "Aunt Edith" to everyone in Alma. She was a member of the Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka, FL.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, H. I. Robertson and William Bass and three brothers, Winston A. Johnson, S. A. Johnson and Carroll P. Johnson. Survivors include one brother, Jimmy Johnson (Carol) of Jacksonville, FL.; sister, Helen Smith of Alma, GA.; five stepchildren of William Bass; nieces and nephew, Peggy Murphy of Alma, GA., Lee Ann Johnson of Jacksonville, FL., Sherry Knapp of Atlanta, GA., Elaine Haas of Augusta, GA. and Charles Johnson of Grand Rapids MI.; great-nephew, Kenny Murphy (Jamie), great-niece, Angie Bishop (Bryant) and great-great-niece, Anna K. Bishop of Alma.
A graveside service for Mrs. Edith will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021at 11:00 AM at Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Michael Hudson and Leroy Lewis officiating.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
