E J Davis, age 82, of Alma died early Sunday morning July 15, 2012 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late James (JIM) Davis and Sadie Cothern Dowling and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Herrington. E J served in the U S Army during the Korean Conflict, was an avid fisherman and sportsman, a carpenter and a member of the Southside Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Hayes Davis of Alma, two sons, Ricky Davis and wife Jennifer of Nicholls, Jeff Davis and wife Melanie of Nicholls, two daughters, Glenda Sue Herrington and Dianne Smith both of Alma, a half sister, Ruby Whitley of Woodbine, Georgia. Also 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 o'clock from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Turner and Rev. Lowell Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Mims Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be, David and Danny Taylor, Michael McDaniel, Josh Davis, Todd Herrington and Jeff Morgan. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
