Emory A. Johnson, Jr. age 85, of Alma died Friday August 3rd, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Medical Center in Waycross after a short illness. He was a native of Punta Gorda, Florida but had lived in Bacon County since 1994. He was son of the late Emory Albert Johnson, Sr. and Linnie McLeod Johnson and was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, C. M., Arthur and Woodrow Johnson, a sister, Ardelia Lea. Emory was a retired school teacher with the Florida Educational System, a veteran of WW II while serving in the U S Navy and a member of Lee's Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bobbie Jean Lee Johnson of Alma, a daughter, Leslie Giraldo and husband David of Alma, a grandson, Cooper Kennedy of Alma. Also many nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 o'clock at Lee's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Finley, Rev. Bryant Bishop and Rev. Lowell Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be, Steven, Ron, Gary and Dustin Lee, Jamie Sweat and Kenny Ray. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
