Evelyn Turner Gill, age 76, of Alma died early Thursday morning July 24th, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. She was a native of Appling County but had lived in Bacon County for many years. She was daughter of the late Rev. Doris Black and Myrtice Crosby Black and was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Bonnie McCall Black, a husband, J L Turner, a sister, Judy B. Lynch. Evelyn was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church in Appling County.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Riley Gill of Alma, five sisters, Jean Orvin Surrency, Brenda Nail, Betty Taylor, Ellen Black all of Baxley and Elaine Edwards of Surrency, three brothers, Eddie Black of Orange Park, FL, David Black of Baxley and Dewayne Black of Bartlesville, OK, two step daughters, Marlene Cason and Cathy Anderson of Offerman, a step-son, Ronnie Gill of Offerman, a multitude of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Norma Trowell of Alma.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 o'clock from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Denny Waters, Rev. Kathy Palmer and Rev. Daniel Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 6 and 8 P M.
Active pallbearers will be, Roger Orvin, Jarrett Williams, Brad Mobley, Marvin Deen,
Greg Black, Wade Orvin, and Pam Lee. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
