Obituary

PITTS, Martha Frances Deen - Frances died peacefully Monday, August 14, 2017, surrounded by her immediate family. She was deeply devoted to her family, a loyal and loving friend to many. She will be remembered for her compassionate nature, gracious hospitality, delicious cooking, and fashionable elegant style. A Celebration of her Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Alma United Methodist Church, Alma, GA with the Reverend Craig Rikard, Reverend Bill Dupree, and Reverend Allen Hartfield officiating. A graveside service will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Alma GA. Pallbearers will be her grandson, 4 grandsons-in-law, and a great nephew. The family will receive friends and visitors on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Crosby Funeral Home, Alma, GA. Mrs. Pitts was born July 18, 1924 to Morris Wilson Deen, Sr. and Lola Smith Deen. She was a life-long member of the Alma United Methodist Church and Pathfinders Sunday school class. She graduated Alma High School, Class of 1941. She married Albert Alonzo Pitts, Jr. on December 9, 1946 in Alma, GA. This union was blessed with two children, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was formerly employed with the Bacon County ASCS office and the Alma Credit Trade Bureau. She was a classy lady, loving mother, and a friend to all of whom she met. She possessed a loving spirit and a will to please and comfort those she loved. A servant at heart, she worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone was accommodated in every way possible upon their arrival within her home and church. She was active socially with the Alma Homemaker's Club and the Alma United Methodist Women. Mrs. Pitts was most committed to and proud of her loving family, whom she was devoted to in every conceivable way. She was a life-time resident of Alma, GA. except for the last few years of her life when she resided at Apple Village Assisted Living in Layton, UT. She is survived by her two children, Margaret Lynn Pitts Buckalew (John) of South Weber, UT, and Larry Albert Pitts (Susan) of Roswell, GA.

Her surviving grandchildren are Michelle Buckalew Nielsen (Keith), John Buckalew, Jr, Lacey Pitts Faulkner (Scott), Jennifer Elizabeth Schultz (Andy), and Haley Brooks Lenker (John). Great-grandchildren are Addison Shurtz, Caden Shurtz, Gabrielle Nielsen, Jack Nielsen, Max Nielsen, Grace Nielsen, Riley Schultz, Lillian Schultz, and Hayden Paul Faulkner.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Albert Alonzo Pitts, Jr., and four siblings, Charles Hamilton Deen, Morris Wilson Deen, Jr., Clifford Farrell Deen, and Vergie Henora Deen. Her family would like to thank the many friends who have visited, called, texted, and emailed to express love and support, as well as her caregivers at Apple Village Assisted Living, Layton, UT and McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, UT.
