Frankie Elizabeth Barber, age 78, of Alma passed away Friday, May 22nd at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County; daughter of the late Edgar Varnadore and Lilly Merle Holton Varnadore and was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Simmons and three step sisters, Ola Sue Varnadore, Elizabeth Weaver and Linda Mayes. She was a member of New Union Baptist Church and retired from the Bacon County School Cafeteria.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Earnest Grady Barber, one son, Roy Barber (Cathy), two daughters, Diane Thompson and Lisa Tomberlin (Everett), brother, Don Varnadore (Carolyn), two sisters, Jo Ann Barber all of Alma and Glenda Wildes of St. Mary's, one step sister, Ollie Mae White of McClenny, FL. and a step brother, Larry Conner (Melissa) of Alma; also 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 25th at 11:00 AM at New Union Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Bohannon and Rev. David Barber officiating. Interment will follow in the Barber Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 10:00 AM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Colby Barber, Brian Thompson, Logan Tomberlin, Brad Taylor, Padrick Duque and Ridge Barber. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
