December 31, 1945 – February 15, 2024
Gary Jones Rewis, 78, peacefully passed away February 15, 2024 at his home. At his side was his loving wife, Cherry Rewis.
Gary was of the Baptist faith. A Memorial services will be held on February 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Damascus Church Cemetery. Pastor Randy Deloach of Connection Church in Dublin, GA will be officiating.
Gary was born in Coffee, Georgia in Bacon County, to Alfred Bradley Rewis and Inez Jones Rewis Boatright. They preceded him in death, along with his three brothers, Jack Rewis, Wilson Rewis, and Ronnie Rewis.
The family moved to Cicero, Illinois, in later years, where Gary attended Morton High School. Upon graduation, Gary joined the U. S. Army, serving honorably for 13 years. Gary was a Vietnam Veteran, as he completed two tours of duty during the Vietnam conflict. He received numerous awards and commendations for his time in service.
After re-entering civilian life, Gary honed his skills and became a Master Ceramic Tile Installer. He was successfully self-employed for many years. He enjoyed his craft and was proud of his quality workman-ship. Gary loved life and had a marvelous sense of humor. He was greatly
loved and appreciated. He will dearly be missed by family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife, Cherry Lynne Rewis, to whom he was married for 28 wonderful years. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Barbara Lawrence, Elaine Mullis (Randall), Jane Widener (Gary), Debra Beasley (Chester), Rosemary Jones, (Ronnie) and Lynn Young. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, John Young Sr, Ronnie Young (Tammy), Monty Young (Tammy), Danny Young (Jennifer), and David Young. Special thanks to nieces
Diana Thomas and Lynne Mullis, for their help and support. We include family and friends in this circle of gratitude. Your help was invaluable, your caring and concern are greatly appreciated.
The family wishes to convey their heart-felt and sincere thanks to the Bacon County American Legion Post 69. Also thank you to Gary's caretakers, Dr Clay Carter and staff, Glenda Morgan, Bacon County Hospital Bacon County EMT, and Bethany Hospice and staff.
