George E. Holland, age 89, of Alma passed away Friday, October 18th at his residence after an extended illness. He was son of the late George Ellis Holland and Pearl Carter Holland and preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Louise Haselden Holland, a daughter, Lorrie Oxford, brother, Robert Holland and two sisters, Edna Dandridge and Hazel Terrell. George was a Member of Big Creek Baptist Church, served in the US Army during WWII and was a Member of Merrill's Marauders.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Force (Dan) of Waycross & Arlene Boatright (Terry) of Surrency, three sons, Robert Holland (Kim) of Odum, Charles Holland (Debra Ann) of Mershon & Clint Holland (Shari) of Alma, 10 grandchildren, Wendy Oxford, Clay, Cliff & Lance Holland, Penny Holder, Kelli Thornton, Shellie Harter, Lea Parker, Jana Yawn & Cody Holland, 9 great-grandchildren, Dusty Oxford, Grant, Eva, Jordon, Parker, Abby and Riley Holland, Cole Holder and Amelia Parker.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 21st at 2:00 PM at Big Creek Baptist Church with Bro. R. B. Gaskins, Bro. Bill Stone and Bro. Randy Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 PM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6 and 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Craig Turner, Dave Lowe, Max Tillman, Edwin Mullis, Lance Carter and Clint Holland. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
