George Samuel Carnes, Sr., age 61, of Mershon died Thursday morning April 24 ^th , 2014 at the Mayo Health System in Waycross after an extended illness.  He was a native of Bacon County, lived in Reidsville for several years before moving to Merson in 1971, he was son of the late George Samuel Carnes, Sr. George worked several years with the Reidsville State Prison System and had served our country 8 years in the National Guard.

Survivors include a son, Mack Christopher Carnes (Judy) of Bristol, his mother, Wana Lee Bennett Carnes of Mershon, a special friend, Helen Logan of Waycross, a brother, Roy Gene Carnes (Rebecca) of Jacksonville, FL, a sister, Patricia Ann Marnik (Martin) of Atlanta, three grandchildren, Mack Carnes, Jr., Summer and Lane Carnes all of Bristol.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Mershon Cemetery with Rev. Hilton Martin officiating.  Active pallbearers will be, Nick Coker, Chris Carnes, Austin Boatright, Burley and Kagan Davis and Ray Martin.
