Obituary

Rev. Glynn Williard Rowell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Thursday January 16,2025 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born 07/05/1940 and raised on a farm in Nicholls, Georgia, he later resided in Douglas, Georgia, before moving to Screven, Georgia.

Rev. Glynn Williard Rowell dedicated his life to the ministry, pastoring churches in the Missionary Baptist Association since 1980. A godly and hardworking man, his unwavering faith and love for the church were evident in his daily life and his interactions with everyone he met. His fellowship and commitment to his congregation were a testament to his Christian values. He graduated in 1958.

He married his beautiful bride Martha Sue Reed Rowell on June 11, 1960, and together they celebrated 64 years. Rev. Glynn Williard Rowell was also known for his work as an exterminator since 1976. He never met a stranger and always took time for anyone in need. His love for family gatherings, gardening, and preserving vegetables for his family and friends were among his many cherished activities. He also enjoyed vacations in the mountains, creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his father, Williard "Tink" Rowell; mother, Wylene Rowell Lane; one brother, Jerell Rowell sisters, Levan Lee and Jean Redding and a special brother-in-law JE Redding; and son-in-law, Anthony Lee.   He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Sue Reed Rowell; daughters, Tammy Wages (Kimbo) of Douglas, Ga., Debra Lynn Lee of Screven, Ga. and a special niece/daughter Lori Lamb of Nicholls, Ga.  grandchildren, Jessica Priest (Gary), Tiffany Ricketson (Jared), and Aaron Lee; great-grandchildren, Kaden Priest, Konner Priest, Kaysn Lee, Remi Kate Ricketson, Waylon Mancil, Aralyn Mancil, and Judd Ricketson and several nieces and nephews.  A special care giver Rosie Mitchell.

His legacy is further honored by honorary pallbearers Billy Mancil, Billy Lee, Loy Gilliard, Herman Lewis and Kenny Lamb, as well as pallbearers, Dewaine Mancil, Mike Reed, Jared Ricketson, Randy Tucker, Lonnie Spikes and Frankie Steed. Officiating ministers Brother David Davis and Mike Bennett will lead the funeral service. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Dry Creek Baptist Church.  The family will be receiving friends at the church Saturday morning from 11:30 AM until service time. Rev. Glynn Williard Rowell will be laid to rest at Hall Cemetery, leaving behind a profound and lasting impact on all whose lives he touched. He will be remembered and cherished forever by his family, friends, and community.
