Grady Felton Dowling, age 87, of Alma passed away Saturday, October 6th at his residence after a short illness. He was a native of Brantley County but had lived in Bacon County since 1955. Grady was son of the late Charlie Mitchell Dowling and Minnie Lou Johnson Dowling and preceded in death by four brothers, Doyle, C.M., Marlon and Audie Dowling and five sisters, Jeanette Rogers, Vassie Thomas, Creola Gribble, Merle Dowling and Burnelle Luke. Grady retired from the FAA after 22 years of employment. He was Secretary of the Bacon County Exchange Club for many years, member of Alma United Methodist Church and served in the US Navy during WWII.

Survivors include his wife of fifty- five years, Lucy Chesser Dowling of Alma, two sons, Marcus Dowling (Priscilla) of Roswell, GA and C. Mitchell Dowling (Jennie) of Blackshear, a daughter, Myra D. Callaway (Blake, Sr.) Athens, GA, seven grandchildren, Diana & Sarah Dowling of Roswell, GA, Chip Dowling of Athens, GA, Cole & Caroline Dowling of Blackshear, Elizabeth Callaway and Blake Callaway, Jr. of Athens, GA.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 9th at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Crosby officiating and eulogies given by, Marcus Dowling, Myra Callaway, Cole Dowling and Blake Callaway, Jr. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until funeral time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alma United Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers will be; Chip & Cole Dowling, Blake Callaway, Sr., Blake Callaway, Jr., Thomas Winslow and Terry Taylor. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
