February 20, 1934 – March 24, 2023
Harriet Carter, age 89, of Alma passed away March 24, 2023. She had been in declining health for about 11 years after she suffered from a fall, which caused a concussion. She died at our adopted family's home because her husband suffered a mild heart attack. Our adopted family is Reynaldo and Gricelda Badillo along with their children, Jose 16, and Harriet Isabella Pichal Badillo, 8.
She was born February 20, 1934 in Coffee County to Harry L. O'Steen and Reita Maulden O'Steen. Mrs. Harriett has lived in Bacon County since 1956, she is retired from FNB South after 53 ½ years and was a member of the Alma First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard O'Steen, Wayne O'Steen and Eddie O'Steen and sister, Margaret McClendon. Survivors include her husband of 66 years of marriage, Linton K. Carter of Alma; brother, Vann (Carmen) O'Steen of Lake Placid, FL; two sisters, Grace (Jerry) Simmons of Wray and Lynn (Edd) Chaney of Douglas; two sister-in-laws, Lynn O'Steen and Evelyn O'Steen of Douglas; their adopted family, Reynaldo (Gricelda) Badillo and Jose and Harriet Isabella. Also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Alma First Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Ricky Gilliard, Morris Johnson, Jack Johnson, Kevin Simmons, Rodney Chaney and Greg O'Steen. Honorary pallbearers will be; Zach & Jackie Johnson, Eva Johnson, Susan Hyers, Norma Trowell, Tammy Mercer, Barbara Peacock, Janice Burnette, Mandy Boatright and all others in attendance.
Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
