Helen C. Smith, age 96, of Alma passed away August 16, 2023 at Lakeview Retirement Home after a short illness.  Mrs. Smith was born in Appling County to the late Silas A. Johnson and Abbie Gail Keen Johnson and made Alma her home for many years. She was retired from the Alma Radio Station and was a member of the Alma First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husbands, Earlish H. Davis and James "Jack" Smith; four brothers, Jimmy Johnson, Winston Johnson, S.A. Johnson and Carroll P. Johnson and sister, Edith Bass.

Mrs. Smith is survived by Peggy Murphy the daughter of the late W. T. Branch; two step children, Tommy Smith (Diane) and Sherrie Dyal (Eugene) of Alma; four grandchildren, Kenny Murphy (Jamie), Angie Bishop (Bryant), Diana Britt (Brian) and Allison Haddock (Brooks); 6 great-grandchildren, Olivia Britt, Carson Britt, Sophie Haddock, Piper Haddock, Ava Britt and special great-granddaughter, Anna K. Bishop.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Alma First Baptist Church with Pastor Bryant Bishop, Pastor Ron Sweatt, and Pastor Lance Wade officiating. Mrs. Jana Yawn Director of Lakeview Retirement Home will be giving a personal eulogy. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church Saturday from 1:00 PM until service time.

Active pallbearers will be; Kenny Murphy, Ricky Gilliard, Brian Britt, Brooks Haddock, Vance Burkett and Barry Edmundson. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
