Horace Rowell, age 69, of Kingsland, GA died Wednesday, May 30th, at the Florida Baptist Medical Center after short illness. He was a native of Coffee County, had lived in St. Mary's Georgia for 23 years and Eastman, Georgia for 24 years before moving back to Camden County in 2011. Horace was son of the late Aldine Rowell and Winnie Thompson Rowell and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hollis and Lamar Rowell. He retired from Gilman Paper Company as a supervisor over the Graphics and Art Department. He also worked nine years at C C A in McCrea, GA., attended Grace Baptist Church while in Eastman and was a veteran of the Viet Nam War while serving in the U S Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Velma Barnes Rowell of Kingsland, a daughter, Jan Thrift of Kingsland, two sisters, Jackie Faye Cason of Waycross, Geraldine Scott of Valdosta, two grandchildren, Jamie Thrift of Wilmington, N C and Kyler Thrift of Kingsland.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00 o'clock from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Woods, Rev. Glen Rowell and a eulogy by Joe Riggins. Interment will follow in Hall Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Allison Funeral Home in St. Mary's, GA Friday evening between 6 and 8 P M. and will be receiving friends at Crosby Funeral Home Saturday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be, Tracy Hendrix, Derek Bellflower, Charles Rowland, Culver Jordan, Doug Lee and Warren Jacobs. Honorary will be, Darren Shaw, Mike, Doug, Ryan, Michael, Jody and Josh Barnes, George Hester,Terry Cason, Keith Rowell,Andrew Phelps, Robert Williams, Larry Lloyd and Vernon Nipper.
