Howard Thomas Burnette, age 83, of Mershon passed away at Harborview Satilla on April 23, 2022 after a short illness. He was born December 27, 1938 in Appling County but had lived most of his life in Bacon County. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar T. Burnette and Mamie Rewis Burnette; three brothers, Wade Burnette, Roy Burnette and Gary Burnette; three sisters, Martha Jean Gay and Mildred Gay.

Howard served in the U. S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Survivors include his wife 41 years, Janice Peacock Burnette of Mershon, two children Bruce Burnette and Rhonda Spires and husband Aaron of Alma; brother, Larry Burnette of Atlanta; sister, Patsy Thompson of Alma; four grandchildren Angel Taylor, Greg Burnette, Dalton Spires and Erica Crosby; seven great-grandchildren, Jade, Brenli, Brenton, Zayleigh, Gace, Gate, and Brexton.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26 ^th at Crosby Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 27 ^th at 11:00 from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Sandiford and Rev. Pet Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers will be: Jack Humphrey, Gene Gay, Nathan Gay, Corey Gay, David Burnette and Buddy Burnette. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
