Hubert Wesley Sasser, age 85, of Alma passed away Tuesday, January 12th at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida after a short illness. He was a native of Covington, Alabama but had lived in Bacon County for many years. Hubert was son of the late Kimmie Richard Sasser and Zelma Taylor Sasser and preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Sasser. He was a retired Educator after 32 years, a member of the Alma Exchange Club, Young Farmers and the Alma First Baptist Church; he also served in the US Army.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Inez McDuffie Sasser of Alma, three sons, Wendell Sasser (Buckie) of Nicholls, Kimmie Sasser (Sandra) of Alma and Glenn Sasser (Esperanza) of Brunswick, one daughter, Renee Chancey (Wade) of Alma, brother, Willie Houston Sasser (Elizabeth) of Opp, AL., sister, Shirley Taylor (Billy) of Opp, AL; also 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 16th at 2:00 PM at New Vision Church with Rev. Glenn Rainey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Nickolas, Gregory, Keaton and Steven Sasser, Will Chancey and Dewayne Mullis. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
