Jack Hughes, age 88, of Alma passed away Saturday, June 15th at the Sumter Retirement Village in Plains, Georgia. He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Andrew Jackson Hughes, Sr. and Irene Tyre Hughes. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Moore Hughes and a daughter, Marjorie Faye McAfee, a brother, Edsel Hughes and a sister, Jean Sellars. He was a member of Alma Church of God and served in the US Army during WWII.
Survivors include a brother, Franklin Hughes of Lithia Springs, Ga, a son-in-law, George McAfee of Plains, Ga., two granddaughters, Reba Katherine Tindel of Columbus, Ga., and Marjorie Lee Parker of Americus, Ga. and five great-grandchildren, Nicole, Marlee & Alan Tindel of Columbus, Ga, Tiffany and Whitney Parker of Americus, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19th at 11:00 AM at the Alma Church of God with Pastor Travis Peavy officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 10:00 AM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Nathan & Matthew Grantham, Bill McAfee. Honorary pallbearers will be; Lamar Rozier and all others in attendance.
