Jack D. Turner, age 87, of Alma passed away Friday, February 6th at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Bacon County. Jack was son of the late James Alfred Turner and Mary Sweat Turner and preceded in death by four brothers, Ward, Fred, Harvey and J. A. Turner, two sisters, Lois Turner Harvey and Deloris Turner Todd. He served in the U S Navy and was a member of the V F W Post 4624 of Alma. Jack graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in forestry. He worked for West Virginia Pulp and Paper and was assigned positions in several states. When he moved back to Alma he cruised timber for various people and also farmed.
Survivors include four nieces, Ellen Harvey of Hayes, Virgina, Fredra Lastinger of Pearson, Wanda Rodman of Killeen, TX and Ann Harvey of Alma, seven nephews,
J.F. Turner of Midway, Ga., Larry Turner of Richmond Hill, Ga. Jerry Turner of Americus, Roger Turner of Tallahassee, Tom Turner of Washington, D C, Chuck and Mike Todd.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 o'clock at Old Pine Grove Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Carlie Lastinger officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the graveside 30 minutes before funeral time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any animal rescue group of your choice.
