Obituary

Jacqueline “Jackie” Whitley Smith, age 90, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 18, 2026. She was a native of Bacon County, born on September 7, 1935, to the late Alvin Whitley and Nancy Dorsey Whitley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smith; her daughter, Lori Lee Alexander; her grandson, Solomon Bradley Lee; and her sister, Robbie Whitley Moore.

Jackie was a member of New Union Church and retired from the City of Alma Water Department, where she worked as a bookkeeper.

She was a loving grandmother whose life was marked by strength, determination, and a spirited personality. She gave so much of herself to those she loved and leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured forever. Though she will be deeply missed, her love and memory will remain in the hearts of her family always.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Lily Hyers (Luke); her great-grandsons, Bryce and Brinley Hyers; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Owen Atha officiating. A private interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
