Rev. James M. (J M) Rigdon, age 90, of Alma died at his home Thursday afternoon March 31st, 2016 after an extended illness. He was a native of Coffee County but had lived most of his life in Bacon County. He was son of the late Andrew Jackson Rigdon and Rose Rigdon Rigdon and was also preceded in death by his wife Hazel Douglas Rigdon, a brother James Carlie Rigdon, 3 sisters Lorean Rigdon, Merrell Ellis, Louise Johnson and a son-in-law Louis Baskin, Jr. Rev. Rigdon was retired from Scapa of Waycross after 32 years of employment, a retired minister, a member of Wesley Chapel (Wolf Pit) Congregational Methodist Church and a veteran of WW II serving in the U S Army.
Survivors include a son Jimmy Carl Rigdon (Wanda) of Alma, 3 daughters Jeannine Tanner (Dwayne) of Manor, Ann Scott (Billy) of Alma, Janice Helms (Chris) of Alma, a brother James Preston Rigdon (Annette) of Cussetta, GA, a sister Valdese Yawn (W C) of Hazlehurst. Also 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Sunday at Wesley Chapel (Wolf Pit) Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. T. F. Yawn, Rev. Pet Hayes, Rev. Danny Turner, Rev. Dwayne Tanner and a closing prayer by Jerald Douglas. The body will be carried to the church Sunday at 10:00 A M to lie in state. Interment will follow in Wolf Pit Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Rigdon, Kevin Scott, Levi Baskin, David Lee, Shawn Lee, Scott Carter, Chad Hill and Will Griffis. Wesley Chapel Congregational Methodist Church Men's Sunday School Class to serve as honorary.
