James Allen Johnson, age 70, of Alma died late Thursday afternoon August 8th, 2013 at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Savannah but had lived in Bacon County from 1953 through 1962. Allen returned to Bacon County in 1998 after retiring from S M S Engineering of Pittsburgh, PA as a project engineer and project superintendent. He was son of the late Artice James Johnson and Viola Holton Johnson and was also preceded in death by a son, DeWayne Johnson. Allen attended the Church of The Nazarene.
Survivors include a son, James Scottie Johnson of Albany, a daughter, Angela Hampton (Emory) of Waycross, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and special friends Latrelle Steedley Turner of Alma, Adam Smith and wife Lori of Douglas.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Mingledroff officiating. Interment will follow in Holton Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be, Jimmy Lee McCall, Terry Shaw, Jerry Taylor, Jimmy Roppe, Billy Ray Mims and Terrell Stone. Honorary will be, Class of 1961 and 1962, Hardee's Group, Sunday School Class, Jerry Carter and Dale Dadamo.
