James W. Dixon, age 71, of Alma passed away Sunday, June 22nd at his residence after a short illness. He was a native of Ocilla, Georgia; had lived in Brunswick before moving to Alma in 1986. James was son of the late Drew Dixon and Corene Bush Dixon. He was in the freight business for over 40 years before retiring in 2007; he attended Elizabeth Chapel Methodist Church, served in the US Army and National Guard for eight years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Smith Dixon of Alma, two sons, Stephen Dixon and wife Wendy of Nicholls and Eric Dixon of Alma, two brothers, Danny Dixon (Jimmie) of Hortense, GA. and Johnny Dixon (Judy) of Blythe Island, GA. and four grandchildren, Keith Johnson of Alma, Kayla Dixon of Waycross, Cody Johnson of Nicholls and Staci Dixon of Alma.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25th at 11:00 AM at Elizabeth Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Crosby and Rev. Jimmy Miles officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 10:00 AM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Brandyn Harnage, James Clements (Pee Wee), Chad Dixon, Terry Dixon, Clyde Gruber and Kevin Smith. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
