Jesse W. Harris, Sr., age 88, of Alma passed away Thursday, March 19th at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Wayne County but had lived in Bacon County most of his life. Jesse was son of the late Thomas C. Harris and Mary Harper Harris and preceded in death by five brothers, Leroy, Ralph, Ramond, Thomas and Howard Harris and a sister, Hazel C. Crosby. He served in the US Army during WWII and served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Eason Harris of Alma, two sons, Jesse W. Harris, Jr. (Fran) of Alma and Carlton Harris (Tiny) of Darien, Ga., four daughters, Liz Moore (Shelton) of Douglas, Debra Walsh (Jerry) and Lisa Foster (Kevin) of Alma and Carla Smith (Tony) of Ellabell, Ga., one sister, Dorothy Crews of Jesup, 15 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 22nd at 2:00 PM at the Alma Church of God with Rev. Travis Peavy and Matt Peavy officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the Alma Church of God from 6 to 9 PM Saturday.
Active pallbearers will be; Brandon Helms, Lamar Harris, Lane Foster and Blaze Hutcheson. Honorary pallbearers will be; The Alma Church of God Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
