Jessie Wheeler, age 92, of Alma passed away suddenly Tuesday, October 8th at the Bacon County Hospital. She was a native of Bacon County and daughter of the late J. Pate Stewart and Nora Meeks Stewart. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Cecil Wheeler, a son, Johnny Wheeler, a son-in-law, Bobby Lancaster, brother, Sylvester Stewart and two sisters, Vodice W. Thomas and Tyson Herrin. She was a member of Alma Church of God.
Survivors include a son, Larry Wheeler of Kingsland, Ga., a daughter, Mary W. Lancaster of Waycross, two brothers, J. T. Stewart (Betty) of Alma and Jimmy Darrell Stewart (Juanell) of McClenney, FL., 6 grandchildren, Terry Lancaster, Kathy Musgrove, Mark Lancaster, Kristy George, Jamey Wheeler and Amanda Grimes, 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 11th at 2:00 PM at Alma Church of God with Rev. Travis Peavy, Rev. Andy Peacock and Rev. William Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Campground Church Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 PM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Terry, Mark, Caleb, Josh & Robbie Lancaster and Jamey Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be; Sr. Adult Sunday School Class and all others in attendance.
