Joan Wood Cauley Lee, age 81, 0f Alma died Saturday March 21st, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah after a short illness. She was a native of Telfair County, had graduated Valedictorian from the class of 1950 in Jeff Davis County and had lived in Bacon County since 1952, was daughter of the late L A Wood, Sr. and Birdie Ray Wood and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Newell and Lynette Wilcox. Joan had worked many years with W. O. W. Insurance Company, was a member of the Alma First Baptist Church, member of the Lydia Sunday School Class and D. A. R.
Survivors include her husband of 3 years Cecil Lee of Alma, two sons, Dr. Jeff Cauley (Jan) of Alma, Mark Cauley (Heather) of Kevil, KY, a daughter, Denise Graham (Dr. Erroll) of Baxley, two step-sons, John Lee (Joyce) of Waycross, David Lee (Kay) of Alma, a step-daughter, Linda Sweat (Charles) of Blackshear, two sisters, Ray Carol McCall (Clyde), Martha Dykes (Leonard),a brother, L. A. Wood, Jr. (Angel Lee) of Hazlehurst, a brother-in-law, Theo (John) Wilcox all of Hazlehurst. Also 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o'clock at the Alma First Baptist Church with Rev. Lance Wade and Rev. Wayne Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church Wednesday morning at 10:00 o'clock to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Clif Cauley, Ben and Adam Graham, Robert Cornett, Dave and Andy Lee. Honorary will be members of the Lydia Sunday School Class and D. A. R. members.
