Obituary

John Smith, 81, of Bristol passed away suddenly August 1 ,2024 at his residence. He was born May 20, 1943 in Pierce County to the late Harry Smith and Jewell Loper Smith. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother James Harold Smith.

Mr. John was a graduate of Patterson High School and received an associate's degree from Truett McConnell. He also served in the Army Reserves and was a lifelong member of Martha Memorial Church. He also enjoyed farming and tending to his cattle.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sue Metts Smith; two sons, Anthony Smith and Timmy Smith (Marie); six grandchildren, Marah Sweat (Skylar), Cole Smith (Skylar), Allie Peeples (Rhett), Brandon Waters, Bryan Gill (Tatum) and Zach Gill (Danielle); six great-grandchildren, Bradley and Bryson Smith, Hazel Cason, Hardy Sweat, Violet and Izzie Gill and sister, Edna Boatright.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Martha Memorial Church with Pastor Joe Thigpen and Pastor Jason King officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1:00 PM until service time.

Active pallbearers will be James M. Boatright, Cole Smith, Rusty Boatright, Marty Boatright, Brandon Waters, Zach Gill and Bryan Gill. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.

Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
