John Edsel Taylor, age 90, of Alma passed away Sunday, January 20th at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Bacon County and son of the late Lee Ansel Taylor and Ethel Johnson Taylor. Edsel was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Sara Allen Taylor. He was a city council member for several years, an Educator helping bring the D C T work program to Bacon County, he was owner and operator of Edsel's Furniture and later, owner and operator of Taylors Sports Ware and Dresses, was a First Lieutenant while serving in the US Army Air Corp during WWII and was a member of the Alma United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, John Taylor (Hilda) of Alma, Tracy Taylor (Becky) of Darlington, S C, 4 grandchildren, Laura Wyatt (Roger) of Hoboken, Stuart Taylor and fiancé Rebecca Thorn of Valdosta, Spencer and Mitchell Taylor of Darlington, S C, 3 great-grandchildren, Lily, Bailey and Chloe Wyatt of Hoboken.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o'clock from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Crosby and Rev. Ronnie Howell officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening between 6 and 9 P M.
Active pallbearers will be, Bobby Hart, Joe Sears, Charles Douglas, Dean Strickland, Delano Deen, Danny Allen and McCoy Crosby. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
