Juanita Barber, age 78, of Nicholls passed away Monday, September 16th at Baptist Village after an extended illness. She was a native of Treutlen County, lived in Bacon County for a while before moving to Ware County the past 44 years. Juanita was daughter of the late Eddie Dalton Newman and Jeanette (Doll) Taylor Newman and preceded in death by a son, Willie David Barber, four brothers, Bobby Gene, Junior, Marvin and Melvin Newman. She was employed by the Bacon County Board of Education in the Dietary Dept. and retired after 20 years and was a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Willie Barber of Nicholls, a son, Billy Barber (Glenda) of Nicholls, daughter, Tammy Martin (Rickey) of Alma, brother, Gene Edward Newman of Dover, FL., three sisters, Jeanette Newman of Holly Hill, SC., Alice Griffin of Plant City, FL., and Gertrude McLoon of Hazlehurst, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday Sept. 18th at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Edmund Thrift officiating. A eulogy will be given by David Barber. Interment will follow in Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM.
Active pallbearers will be; Kyle Mercer, B. J. Barber, Dustin & Cam Hayes, Josh & Justin Barber and Brett Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be; B C High School Lunch Room Staff, Baptist Village Nursing Home Staff, Dr. George Wheeler, Lois Batten, Joann Williams, Pauline Roppe, Richard and Bonnie Murray, Lisa Youngblood and Dr. Glynn Moore.
