June Walker Nobles, age 77, of Alma passed away in the presence of loved ones on April 6, 2021 after an extended illness. She was born on June 11, 1943 in Forrest County, MS to Carl Culberson Walker and Helen Louise Walker. She moved to Alma in 1968 with her young family where she worked briefly as an X-ray technician at Bacon County Hospital. She was a life-long homemaker, steadily creating opportunities for her children and husband to thrive, grow and learn. June never met a stranger, and she was gifted in making any gathering a celebration. Her interest and participation in the community included Scout Leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts, Alma Garden Club Member (winning many awards), member of the Bacon Sizzlers Square Dance Club, and volunteering for numerous school and recreation events that included fundraising for multiple clubs and organizations her children were involved in. She hosted pre-K classes at her home to tour her beautiful gardens and menagerie of animals. Her love for animals led to rescuing many domestic and wild animals in her lifetime, always nurturing them as part of the family. As a member of Douglas Chapel Church, she volunteered and served leading youth and women's groups until her health prevented. She also impacted many high school students while serving as a substitute teacher, connecting with them in a way that only she could. Her creative talents led to her owning a small floral shop and directing many weddings. She enjoyed painting, cooking, entertaining in her home, and gardening….creating multiple gardens at her home and naming them after her children and grandchildren. She spent time learning Karate for sport and self-defense, earning one of the highest belts in her division. In addition, she spent many hours researching the genealogy of her family's past generations-- well before there was the internet. She was a self-taught, life-long learner that loved people, deeply valued her family, and lived life to the fullest.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Byron Grant Nobles, and her great-grandson, Banks Julian Taylor. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Johnny Nobles; Two sons: Walter Byron Nobles "Barry" (Dawn) of Alma, GA, and John Stacy Nobles (Michelle) of Darrien, GA; Two Daughters: Dedra Nobles White "Dede" (Joel) of Woodstock, GA and Trina Nobles McMillan of Athens, GA; One Sister, Kay Walker McMahon of Early, TX. Two Brothers: Steve Walker (Joy) of Purvis, MS and David Walker (Brenda) of Hattiesburg, MS; ten grandchildren, four great-grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Crosby's Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Douglas Family Cemetery: PO Box 337, Alma, Ga 31510. You may also choose to donate to a charity of your choice in honor of June Nobles.
