Lois Jewell Smith, age 86, of Mershon passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Pierce County on March 1, 1932 to the late Allen Smith and Aurelia Burkhalter Smith. Her husband Alton Smith, two sisters, Vera Mae Deen, Bertha Boyette, six brothers, Harry, Wallace, Henry, Edgar, Alfred Parnell and Lonnie Smith, and a granddaughter Michelle Smith preceded her in death. She was a member of Martha Memorial Methodist Church.

Survivors include two children, Dwight Smith of Bristol, GA. and Marie Smith Glass (James) of Athens, GA., one brother, Seab Smith (Sheila) of Mershon, GA. four grandchildren, Chad Smith (Casey), Kyle Smith, Jennifer Smith Madhoun (Steve) and Alton Smith (Amy) and three step grandchildren, Wesley Springer (Janice), Rebecca Glass and Jason Glass and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23 ^rd at 11:00 AM at Martha Memorial Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Thigpen and Rev. Tony Walsh officiating. Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 6 and 9 PM. The body will be carried to the church at 10:00 AM Saturday morning.

Grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.
