Mark Allen Cothren age 57, passed away on August 26, 2025, at Wellstar MCG in Augusta, Georgia, following a brief illness. He was born on June 8, 1968, in Suffern, New York, to Mack Cothren and Linda Post Cothren.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Mack Cothren; two aunts, Carolyn Sandiford and Evelyn Yawn; his maternal grandmother, Mildred Tatum Post; and two uncles, Jack Cothren (wife Pat) and Ted Cothren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christy Cothren; his mother, Linda Cothren; two sons, Bernie and Samuel Cothren; three step-sons, Derek Marschall of Alma, and John and Tyler Oliver of Waycross; one brother, Brian Cothren (Lisa); mother-in-law, Debbie Carelock of Alma; father-in-law, Crip Zanders of West Green; and numerous beloved uncles, including Wayne Post (Barbara) of Ocala, FL, Larry Cothren (Kathy) of Alma, Bobby Cothren (Wanda Faye) of Alma, and Billy James Cothren of New York.
Mark was a man of strong faith and an active member of both Southside Church of God and Living River Church of God. He dedicated much of his life to public service, working for many years as a deputy in Alma and later serving as Sheriff of Bacon County.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Southside Church of God with Pastor David Deen and Bishop R.B. Gaskins officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1 PM until service time. The family kindly requests that those attending wear green, if possible, in honor of Mark.
All in attendance will be considered honorary pallbearers.
