Obituary

Marshall Heyward Poole, Sr., age 96, of Alma passed away Tuesday, June 18th at his in Desoto, Georgia after a short illness. He was a native of Warwick, Georgia but had lived in Alma for many years before moving to Desoto several years ago. Marshall was son of the late William Riley Poole and Ida Mae Harris Poole and preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Elizabeth Crews Poole, his son, Marshall Heyward Poole, Jr., five brothers, William, Lee, Phil, Marlin and Keith Poole, three sisters, Alice Ray, Sarah Espy and Mary Cranford and a grandson, Marshall Poole, III.
He was a Member and Deacon at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church, Past Master-Bacon Lodge # 56, Past High Priest Tri-City Chapter # 90, Past Illustrious Master Council #30, Past Commander #36, was Awarded KYCH, 32 Scottish Rite and Hasan Temple; he was retired from the US Army after 20 years while serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict and was retired from the Alma Telephone Company.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Michael Poole of Alma and Deborah Poole Payne of Greenville, NC., nephew and niece, Marlin Poole, Jr. and Kay Poole of Desoto, Ga. and a niece Mary Poole Pratt of Jacksonville, FL.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22nd at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Ray and Rev. Tommy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery with full Military Honors and Masonic Services. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday evening between the hours of 7 and 9 PM.

Active pallbearers will be; Billy & Roy Newberry, Billy H. Taylor, Jerry Ray Taylor, James Tobler and Johnny Nobles. Honorary pallbearers will be; Deacon & Wives of Douglas Chapel Bacon Lodge #56 Dr. Harrison Carter and Staff.

Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
