Mary Jo Burkett, age 68, of Alma passed away Thursday, September 6th at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Coffee County but had lived in Bacon County the past twenty years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents,Alvin Taylor and Delila Taylor, her husband of thirty- four years, Charles Felton Burkett, Sr, two brothers, Alton and Archie Taylor, three sisters, Teresa Pearce, Wilma McElhaney and Johnice Minix. She was a member of Alma First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Vance Burkett (Amy) of Alma, GA and Charlie Burkett (Stacy) of Richmond Hill, GA, two daughters, Tina Reinholz (Eric) of Greenville, SC and Angela McLean (Danny) of Alma, nine grandchildren, Ben Burkett (Courtney) of Brunswick, Joel McLean of Atlanta, Stephanie and Morgan Burkett of Richmond Hill, GA, Reed & Clint Burkett and Dylan McLean of Alma, John & Charley Reinholz of Greenville, SC., two sisters, Lila Jo Anderson (Fred) of Nicholls & Aldie Crews of Charleston, SC and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8th at 2:00 PM at Alma First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Johnson and Rev. Jerry Campbell and personal eulogy by: Joel McLean. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00 PM to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 6 and 9 PM. Grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be; The Wednesday Night Kitchen Crew of First Baptist Church and Win-One Sunday School Class.
