Obituary

Max Dwight Tillman, age 79, of Alma passed away Saturday March 29, 2025, in the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Wayne County and the son of the late Robert and Vannie Tillman. He was retired from CSX railroad after 42 years, a member of Big Creek Baptist Church, a volunteer firefighter, a member of the Bacon County Senior Center and Bacon County High School Class of 1963. He enjoyed flying remote control airplanes, playing golf, and fishing. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Stacy Dwight Tillman, an infant daughter Wanda Marie Tillman and a sister, Sarah Sellers.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sherry Miles Tillman, sons Robbie (Nedra) Tillman of Tennessee and Marty (Julie) Tillman of Alma, daughters Lynn (David) Griffin and Leah (Art) Cothern of Alma, Sister Brenda (Moose) Jowers of Blackshear, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his special pet "Molly".

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 11 AM in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home, with Rev. Cole Griffin and Rev. Mike Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM.

Active pallbearers include Solomon Tillman, Colin Tillman, Isaiah Tillman, Caleb Tillman, Trey Tillman, James Griffin, Nate Cothern, Eric Carter, Jason Carter, and Kevin Thompson. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escort.

Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
